Spring Break 2028: Fieldwork in Denmark
In August of 2025, a group of 22 Prison Education Project volunteers traveled to Denmark and participated in a PEP Forum, toured three prisons and one halfway house, and hosted a Reintegration Academy workshop for Danish parolees. Dr. Renford Reese was invited to speak about prison education and prison reform in the Danish parliament during this trip.  In August of 2026, 24 Prison Education Project volunteers traveled to Denmark to teach weeklong courses in Søbysøgård and Nyborg prisons in the Odense region. There were 15 15 formerly incarcerated PEP instructors who taught in these facilities, making this trip  historic. There has never been an international initiative that involved this many formerly incarcerated individuals invited to teach in a foreign prison. 
 

Building on the foundation laid by these two trips, Cal Poly Pomona students will engage in fieldwork in Denmark during Spring Break 2028. The students will spend one day in Malmö, Sweden, 3 days in Copenhagen and 7 days in Odense teaching Life Skills courses in two prisons. ​
